Let’s do a fantasy sequence and write some commercials for Democrats running for office. Who knows? Maybe we’ll come up with a great idea and some candidate’s producer will see it and use it. This election is so important and yet, I don’t see many break through spots. Daily Kos is a creative space for progressives, liberals Democrats. Why not let our creative juices flow and come up with ad ideas our candidates could make and use to get elected? I’m going to write for Florida, since I live in Florida, but this is a national election. So feel free to write ads for candidates in PA, OH, GA or anywhere.
Both Crist and Demings are missing major opportunities (IMO) with Venezuelan and Nicaraguan Americans. Annette Taddeo, a down ballot candidate gets it and is going for these voters. Taddeo understands the fear of “Socialism” in many Hispanic minds means lack of freedom. Freedom to assemble, address their grievances to their government without fear of retribution. You know, our first amendment rights. Taddeo is using the word “Socialism” the way these Americans view “Socialism” which is conflated with authoritarianism. What we aren’t seeing is the authoritarianism that De Santis, Trump, and Rubio are promoting. Why not educate Florida voters to see the bad Socialistic tendancies of De Santis, Trump and Rubio?
Why are there no spots about DeSantis’ revenge politics? Show show a clip of DeSantis being a boor to some innocent and then zero in on the innocent’s expression. Good camera work will show and illicit a sympathetic response. Have the voice over talk about how DeSantis disrespects and dismisses his constituents. DeSantis is not engaging, charming or likeable. Show that. I sure wouldn’t want to have a cup of coffee, tea, a glass of beer or wine with DeSantis. Go after that! I can envision a jolly table with Crist sharing coffee or a meal with lots of laughter and then cut to De Santis and show how much awkwardness he brings to the table.
Why are there no spots about how Rubio clearly backed down from a bully? Do we want a Senator who can’t defend himself, defending us? Golly gee, wouldn’t that be a slam dunk? Show a clip of him talking about Trump’s little hands followed by his mea culpa, then zing in! Show Demings leaning in for the fight! Show her doing a Pelosi of standing up to a bunch of bullies. You know that happened, she was the Police Chief of Orlando. There’s got to be a clip of that somewhere.
Southwest Florida is going to have a big problem voting on and by November 8th. No one is talking about this. I must admit that housing, water and electric is a greater priority than voting for these folks at the moment. Who knows how many of these voters have lost the documents needed to vote. What we need to see are commercials pointing out that Rick Scott voted no on Ian relief spending and that Marco Rubio didn’t show up for work (again) and failed to vote at all on the measure. Are you listening, Val Demings? We need spots of Demings and Crist visiting South West Florida bringing relief supplies.
Abortion rights is a point of focus for both Crist and Demings and that is good. What they haven’t done is zing in. What would you want to do if your daughter’s water broke at 18 weeks of pregnancy? Would you want her to experience sepsis before the pregnancy is terminated? Do you want ectopic pregnancies to burst before they are treated? This lightly mentioning abortion in a fast way doesn’t do justice to just how draconian the rights anti-abortion views are. don’t stop with rape and incest, go for the toxic pregnancy realities.
What no Democrat is pointing out is that if abortion rights fall, so goes LGBTQ rights, privacy rights and the rest of our rights implied in the 14th amendment. Where are the spots on this?
