Well, I'm Offended

The good thing about Facebook and other social media sites is that they do help me keep in touch with family and friends who live far away. The flip side is that I get exposed to a lot of right wing claptrap. Usually I can ignore the right wing garbage, but not today.

Today I found what the poster was sure was a funny joke. The one where Oprah hitches a ride on Air Force One along with the president and the first lady.

Bad joke, very bad joke - not funny at all photo 67971_423018601113710_1985190431_n.jpg

I am not amused. I'm offended. On many levels I'm offended.

It's not just the fact that the facts are wrong in this "joke". Obama won by the next best thing to 5 million votes. Obama won 51% of the popular vote. These are facts that the right wing simply cannot accept, so they feed their delusions with "jokes" like this. Assuming that virtually everyone who didn't vote in the past election (children, felons, non-citizen residents) wouldn't have voted for President Obama is the part of the "joke" that slapped my psyche. Maybe it's the arrogance of the assumption that yanked my chain.

It's not simply the blatant disrespect for the POTUS. This is a joke about killing the POTUS, FLOTUS and Oprah (I guess) would go down as collateral damage. I'm not a killjoy, but a "joke" about killing the President of the United States and his wife isn't funny. A "joke" about killing Oprah isn't funny either. Maybe it's just me, but I don't find killing to be funny at all.

What offended me most was that this "joke" has over 11,000 likes. It has been shared over 25,000 times. How many of those "shares" are like this one, where I'm pointing to it as unacceptable humor? I don't know. I hope it's most of the 25k, but probably not.

It is probably best for me to ignore this type of humor, but not today. It's not funny.
